Weekend Snow

It snowed here this weekend. Not quite as much as Boston or upstate NY but more snow than anywhere that we have lived for ten years or so. The first thing I wanted to do was put the truck in 4 wheel drive and go play in the snow. Fortunately we are at the edge of surbubia and it is not a long drive to be out in the country, quite similar to where I grew up. Out beyond Poolesville, it is very rural and the road eventually terminates at White's Ferry. This is an actual working ferry that carries twenty of so cars at a time across a narrow section of the upper Potomac River.

From here you can get onto the C & O Canal towpath. I parked near the ferry terminal and took a walk down the desolate path, trodding north in the fresh snow and revelling in the silence. I don't get to hear much silence these days and sometimes long for the days of walking in the woods of home and hearing only what nature had to say. After my towpath walk I decided to see how my truck would handle the snow and took off down a dirt road nearby. In some places not a soul had ventured down these roads and I enjoyed plowing thru what occasionally was 5-6" of snow.

Later I went back home and dragged Beth out of the warm house and took another walk down the towpath of the canal. Just enough snow - enough to enjoy.
